You’re going to be voting on one more thing next election | Secretary of State Election Referendum

Two days after being elected to the Ridgeway State Senate, RyanJSyndicate introduced a resolution that would bring the topic of if the Secretary of State should be elected to a vote via referendum.

On Tuesday, July 8th, during the first senate session, the Ridgeway State Senate adopted this resolution (R8-02) unanimously, with it requiring at least a 2/3rds majority vote. The referendum that you will vote on during the next Special or General Election will read as the following: “Should the Secretary of State
become an office appointed by the Governor?”. As a voter, you will get to vote yes or no. Only a simple majority is needed in order to pass this referendum to amend the Ridgeway State Constitution, making the Secretary of State an appointed position for 4 months, rather than elected.

“Thats fucked up in my opinion, taking our rights to vote for important stuff like that.”

Neffins, Local Voter

If this referendum passes, the State Constitution will be amended, and the Governor, with the advice of the senate will appoint the Secretary of State. The Senate, however must still confirm this appointment. For you, the average voter, you just have one less thing to worry about when you are voting.
